These are all things that haven’t yet happened. However, depression is an emotion of the past, from something that has already happened to you, for example, a bad divorce, or losing your job, or a traumatic event. So, depression is an emotion based on a past event and anxiety is an emotion based on a future event that hasn’t yet happened. How many times have you been anxious about a future event, only to find out there was no need to be anxious. For example, dreading having to give a speech, but when you finished, you realise that it went well, and you enjoyed it. Or having anxiety about your annual job review because you assume it will be negative, but instead your boss praises you! Or getting really anxious about driving on the motorway because you’re convinced you might crash, but of course you don’t. So, what I’m talking about is unnecessary anxiety because you’re overthinking the situation ahead of time, but ‘Cognitive Deletion’ sends a signal to your brain to check if the worry is valid or not. And if it’s NOT valid, then your overthinking instantly stops, and your anxiety disappears! Let me show you an example of that.
